West Sussex Teaching School Hub

GLF Schools

GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

Small Schools Survey

As part of our Teaching School Hub Strategic Role, we have been working with small schools in West Sussex to identify the barriers they face in engaging with Initial Teacher Training (ITT). We have collaborated with these small schools and some volunteer ITT providers to explore potential solutions to these barriers. Thank you to all the providers who have supported this work so far.

We are sharing a document, GLF WS TSH ITT Strategy Guide  which has been sent to all small schools, outlining the barriers and the mitigations that have been explored. We hope you find it helpful.

We have also compiled some case studies of small schools/providers that have successfully worked with trainees in small schools.

It has been very encouraging to see that all providers are keen to be as flexible as possible, within their remits, to allow schools to trial potential solutions and to be involved in ITT. This is something that has been shared with the small schools in West Sussex.
