GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

Supporting Pupils with SEN in Mainstream Schools - 2 year programme

We are delighted to announce that we are hosting a programme that focuses on Supporting Pupils with SEN in Mainstream Schools. This is a sustained two-year programme of facilitated sessions and follow-on coaching to support SENDCos, Inclusion Leads and Senior Leaders to understand and implement the evidence from the EEF’s SEN in Mainstream Schools Guidance Report.  The current cohort is about to start Year 2 of this programme which is being delivered remotely by Becky Jones (GLF Strategic Lead, SEND) and Emma Byrne (Assistant Headteacher, Inclusion and SEND).

We know that the numbers of pupils with a diagnosed learning need are rising. We also know that the attainment gap for these pupils is wider than for disadvantaged pupils. It is vital, therefore, that teachers and school leaders are equipped with the knowledge and skills to meet pupil needs and promote more equitable outcomes. This two-year programme supports SENDCOs, Inclusion Leads and Senior Leaders to explore and understand the evidence and to implement change in their settings. The six facilitated sessions in Year 1 are being followed by coaching support in Year 2, alongside the establishment of networks of support between schools.

The programme is based on one originally developed by Southampton Inclusion Service and HISP Research School. It is being further developed and delivered in partnership with Whole School SEND, the EEF Research Schools Network and GLF West Sussex Teaching School Hub.
