West Sussex Teaching School Hub

GLF Schools

GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

National Professional Qualifications

At GLF Teaching School Hub, we are happy to be able to offer to a range of National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) in collaboration with our two partners, Education Development Trust (EDT) and Best Practice Network (BPN).

NPQs are available to those with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Teaching support staff can also apply for NPQs relevant to them, upon applying for a temporary Teacher Reference Number (TRN). This can be done via the Gov.uk website HERE. Once the TRN comes through, applications for NPQs can be made in the same way.

In the first instance, applicants should contact GLF Teaching School Hub, and we will be able to offer support and advice.

Applicants should be aware that there is a substantial time commitment required for NPQs and that usually they will be undertaking much of the online learning in their own free time, rather than during the school day.

We would therefore ask schools to have a robust conversation with applicants to ensure that they understand this and will be able to keep up with the online modules, especially on the specialist courses where the content comes quite quickly.

NPQ Funding from September 2024

On 21 March, the DfE released NPQ funding information for new participants starting in Autumn 2024.

Further details from the DfE can be found here.

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/funding-for-national-professional-qualifications-npqs

From September, there will be scholarship funding for all teachers from publicly funded schools and 16-19 educational organisations in the following NPQs:

  • NPQLPM- Leading Primary Mathematics

  • NPQSEN – NPQ for those leading on SEND**

  • NPQH - Headship

For all other NPQs, scholarship funding to cover the full NPQ course cost will be available to:

  • The 50% of schools with the highest proportion of students who attract pupil premium funding

  • 16-19 educational settings identified as having high disadvantage

  • Early Years settings that meet the highly disadvantaged criteria (this is relevant for the Early Years Leadership NPQ only)

In addition, funding is also available for:

  • The Early Headship Coaching Offer, if you are in the first 5 years of headship; those heads will also need to be doing, or have done, the Headship NPQ

  • Schools will be able to check eligibility for funding for Autumn 2024 when registration opens later this year.

The bursary funding is capped at 10,000 places nationally and Lead Providers will be given bursary allocations which they will then share with their delivery partners.

We therefore recommend you put your expressions of interest in as soon as possible to avoid dissapointment.

We will be writing to schools in the forthcoming weeks with further information on NPQ bursary funding changes and how it impacts them.

There will also be a school funded option for all NPQs. Funding will be the same as this year:
